Male Facial Surgery

All You Need to Know about Male Facial Surgery including different procedures, risks, costs, and recovery.

Male facial surgery covers a broad spectrum of procedures, from nose jobs to chin implants and facelifts to fat injections, and more men than ever are going under the knife to achieve that look or to correct certain facial features they’re not happy with. Hospitals and clinics all over the country have highly qualified cosmetic surgeons that offer most services.

Common facial surgery procedures

Facelift (rhytidectomy): This is the most common cosmetic surgery procedure after liposuction and breast augmentation. It involves the tightening of the loosening skin over the face, whereby small incisions are made near the ear and the excess skin is removed. A simple facelift can make a patient look several years younger in a two- or three-hour op. General anesthetic is used along with a hospital/clinic stay of a day or two. Specific facelift techniques include short scar facelift (s lift), which leaves minimal scarring, and feather lift surgery, which can be performed under local anesthetic and has a shorter recovery time.

Fat injections: Also known as fat grafting, fat injections are a good way to reduce wrinkles and possibly acne scarring in male facial surgery. Each session takes about 90 minutes under a local anesthetic.

Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty): A very popular cosmetic facial surgery procedure which increases or decreases the size of the nose, both in length and width. This procedure normally takes two hours and is done under a general anesthetic. Revision rhinoplasty may be needed to correct a nose job gone wrong.

Ear correction (otoplasty): Usually involves the pinning back of protruding ears and is most popular in children that are conscious of their ears. This procedure takes a couple of hours and will involve an overnight stay in the clinic or hospital, although some can return home the same day.

Eye bag removal (blepharoplasty): Excess fat, muscle and skin are removed from beneath the eyelids to counter drooping and that worn look. This procedure is also often performed in conjunction with a facelift under a local anesthetic.

Eyelid correction (canthoplasty): Sagging lower eyelids are tightened with this male facial surgery procedure, which is generally corrective as opposed to cosmetic. Recovery is usually fast.

Brow lift: Involves smoothing out lines on the forehead through frowning and can also correct drooping eyebrows. The procedure usually takes an hour or two and often involves an overnight stay.

Cheek reduction (buccal fat removal): A common procedure to remedy so-called chipmunk cheeks. The operation is a short one of about an hour and recovery time takes in the order of three weeks.

Cheek implants/augmentation: Performed to counter congenital deficiency, facial trauma, or possibly bone resorption through aging via small implants. The surgery usually takes around 90 minutes under general anesthetic followed by a night’s stay.

Chin reduction/augmentation: A prominent or receding chin is another popular male facial surgery procedure that usually has dramatic results. Both procedures take around two or three hours and involve a night in the clinic or hospital. The implant in chin augmentation feels just like real bone and the patient can also opt for a Travolta-like dimple.
